They say that the way you spend your New Year’s Eve is an indication of how the subsequent year will play out. This has proved itself to be true more than ever this year, as we tucked 2016 away with heartbreak and welcomed the new year with fear and reluctance. 2017 was rang in with so much tragedy, and my god did it stick around. Thriving on our pain. Growing. Lingering. Both the small town catastrophe and the worldwide chaos that unfolded within 12 short months have often left me questioning the merit in this life, the value in our existence. I’ve never been one for the whole “can’t wait to see the back of this year” mindset, but I cannot wait to see the back of this year.
Every day is a new opportunity. Every minute is. Every second. But the 1/1/2018 is one that we can take on together. We can read more. We can eat well. We can travel far and wide. We can work hard towards playing hard. We can stand tall in the face of adversity like we have done in 2017, together. We can express gratitude to every sunrise, every sunset, every day. We can fall madly in love with everyone we meet, and know that they are madly in love with us to.
How long has it been since we’ve skipped instead of walked? We can do that. Let’s do that.
Things I’ve lost in 2017: Friends, perspective, love, & hope.
Things I’ve gained in 2017: Friends, perspective, love, & hope. 🌑
